In Remembrance of Kelly Burnett

1962 - 2018

My aunt Kelly was more than a woman. She was an inspiration and a role model. She was the first person I came out to, in a world of uncertainty; she was my rock.

She had come out as lesbian in a time when it was still illegal, but that never stopped her. She showed me it was okay to be gay, okay to be happy, and that it was okay to be ME.

She was the life of the party, and always brought a smile with her wherever she went. But unfortunately that wasn't enough. She decided to take her own life. She'll forever be missed.

The day I heard of the news, I called and called and called. Hoping she'd pick up, but she never did.

I never got to tell her I love her. And that she's the best thing that's ever happened to me.
