Fred, your life mattered in ways you'll never fully know. In your pain, you still gave hope-especially to my son. You saved him, and through that, you gave me a gift I'll never be able to repay. I wish I could have seen you more clearly, reached you more deeply-but I carry you with me now every step. You were strong, even when you felt weak. You were loved, even when you couldn't feel it.
