In Remembrance of Akshay Patel

Akshay Patel was born in Luton, England and completed a beautiful family of 5. Akshay and his family emigrated to San Francisco, California when he was 5 years old as he joined West Portal Elementary school. Akshay was an energetic fun-loving child who was constantly found outside playing with his friends until nightfall. He was very particular as a child, but nothing more so than his clothes. He would change outfits 3-4 times a day if they were the slightest bit dirty which humored his family.  Being the youngest of three he was adored and ruthlessly spoiled, always expecting the most presents on birthday and Christmas.

However, Akshay did not allow himself to be the center of attention for long. By his late teenage years and continuing throughout his adult life, Akshay was known for his selflessness and empathy. He could always be relied on for checking in on loved ones and lending his wisdom that was far beyond his age. Many described him as a lightworker, transmuting the darkness of loved ones into light, even in his final days.

Akshay's education in San Francisco included Herbert Hoover Middle School and Balboa High School. He then graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a degree in engineering leading a successful career at Genesys while living in San Diego. When he was not busy excelling at his job, he was often found adventuring with his closest friends.

Akshay loved the arts. He loved drawing as a child and continued his artistic abilities throughout his life winning many competitions. In his adult life, he lended his artistic abilities into creating artwork for his closest friends, designing clothing, and creating a living space that exemplified minimalism and a futuristic design.

In the last year of his life, Akshay's health took a decline and despite seeking the necessary help, he could not bear the suffering any longer. He is survived by his parents Suresh and Sharmista, his brother Roshan, and sister Jasmyne, among countless friends and family who loved him immensely.

He is remembered for his wit, his charming sarcasm, and the depths of his compassion. Above all, he remains admired for his honesty and moral compass (instead of: always telling the truth and could be depended on to consistently do the right thing). His integrity and nobility has left its permanence on us all as we continue his legacy.
