Find Understanding and Hope Among Grieving Parents of LGBTQIA+ Children
This support group is designed to offer friendship, guidance, and hope after a heartbreaking loss. Groups are small, private, and led by experienced facilitators who are fellow survivors of suicide loss. This is a place where you can speak your child’s name and share your story without judgment. During your group sessions, you can expect:
- Genuine Connection: Build relationships with other parents who understand the profound grief of losing a LGBTQIA+ child to suicide.
- Guided Discussions: Our compassionate facilitators ensure that everyone’s experiences are acknowledged and valued.
- Shared Experiences: Gain insight from the stories of other parents who have faced similar challenges and are finding their way through grief.
- Safe and Supportive Environment: This closed group of 10 maintains a safe and healing atmosphere for all.
Support Group Details
Our groups for Grieving Parents of LGBTQIA+ Children are open to any parent who is at least four months out from their loss at the time the group begins.
- What: Eight Sessions, 90 minutes long, every other week
- Where: Online via Zoom
- Note: These are “closed” rather than “drop-in” support groups. This means you travel the grief journey with the same people every session.
- Cost: $280 per person

Meet your group facilitator:
Vanessa McGann
Vanessa McGann is a practicing psychologist specializing in traumatic loss and grief. She is co-chair of the Coalition for Clinician Survivors, an organization for professional caregivers who have had a suicide loss. She’s been active in numerous suicide prevention and postvention organizations and initiatives, including serving on the board of the Alliance of Hope. She lost her sister Nadine, a member of the queer community, to suicide in 2004
Meet your group assistant:
Eric Fulmer
Eric Fulmer is a successful technology company founder who brings compassion and insight to supporting suicide loss survivors, rooted in his own experience of losing his son Nathaniel, a proud LGBTQIA+ advocate, to suicide in 2024. He is a certified facilitator for NAMI’s Family-to-Family mental health support program and serves on the board of the Alliance of Hope.
How to Join
This Group is open to any parent who is more than four months out from the suicide loss of a child who identified as LGBTQIA+. To join, simply register for the group using the link below.
Once registered, a support group facilitator or assistant will contact you directly to schedule a one-on-one conversation about the group, ensuring it’s a good fit for you. You will then receive all the necessary information to participate, including the Zoom details, via email.
